This one was a full reset. We tore out what was there and started clean - new edging, new rock, a completely fresh look along the front sides of the house from fence to fence.
For the edging, we went with Midland Bullet Edgers in charcoal. It's a solid product. The curved profile gives you a clean separation between the bed and the lawn without looking harsh or cheap. The charcoal color works really well against the gray siding on this house - it all ties together without anyone having to think too hard about it.
Once the edging was set, we filled the beds with 2-inch river rock. River rock is a great choice for these types of beds. It stays put, it drains well, and it doesn't break down over time the way mulch does. Low maintenance is the whole point, and this delivers on that.
We measured everything carefully before setting a single piece of edging. Getting the curves right matters - sloppy lines show up immediately and they undercut the whole finished look. The beds run the full length of both sides of the house, so there was a lot of ground to cover and zero room to cut corners.
We're heading back next week to install the plants the customer picked out. Once those go in, this whole thing is going to come together even more. The rock bed and edging give those plants a clean, structured foundation to sit in - exactly what a front landscape should have.
