New construction homes come with a blank slate - and that's actually a great opportunity to get the landscaping right from day one. That's exactly what we got to do here in Grimes, working alongside MIR Homes on this new build. The front entry was wide open, no bed, no definition, nothing to frame the house. We came in and changed that.

We went with Iowa Buff stone edging paired with gray river rock fill. The combo works really well here because the Iowa Buff has a warm, natural tone that plays off the stone facade on the home without competing with it. The curved edging line follows the entry naturally - it doesn't feel forced or geometric. It just fits.

River rock is one of our go-to materials for low-maintenance beds like this. No mulch to replenish every season, no weeds pushing through constantly. For new homeowners who are already juggling a hundred things, that matters. You want something that looks sharp and stays that way without a ton of upkeep.

Partnerships with builders like MIR Homes are something we take seriously. When a builder trusts you with the finishing touches on someone's new home, you don't cut corners. The bed edging, the material selection, the final grade - all of it has to be done right because this is the first impression the homeowners get every time they pull into the driveway.

This kind of landscape bed installation is one of the most cost-effective ways to add real curb appeal to a home. It doesn't require a massive footprint. Sometimes a well-placed, clean bed near the entry is all it takes to pull the whole front of a house together.
