Backyard Stripped, Graded, and Ready for Fresh Black Dirt

Before any good yard comes together, the ground underneath has to be right. That means clearing everything out, getting the grade where it needs to be, and making sure the base is solid before a single scoop of black dirt goes down. That's exactly where we are with this backyard.

We brought in the skid steer and got to work - clearing out the old material, grading the entire yard fence line to fence line, and smoothing things out so the finish work has a proper foundation to sit on. It sounds straightforward, but getting a yard properly graded takes real attention to how water is going to move across the surface. Get it wrong and you're dealing with drainage problems down the road. Get it right and everything after it goes in clean.

The whole space is fenced in with a white vinyl privacy fence, which actually works in our favor during prep - it gives us clear boundaries to grade to and keeps the site contained. You can see how much open ground there is to work with here. That's a serious amount of square footage, and we needed every inch of it to be consistent before moving forward.

Fresh black dirt is going in next. That's what gives new grass the best possible start - nutrient-rich topsoil that roots can actually establish in, rather than whatever compacted subsoil was sitting here before. It's one of those steps that homeowners don't always think about, but it makes a big difference in how the finished lawn performs long-term.

This is the kind of prep work that separates a yard that looks good for a season from one that actually holds up. We take the groundwork seriously because cutting corners here creates problems you can't see until it's too late.
